Q&A: What To Do About Ashy Legs?
By TheBeautyEditor | July 31, 2007
Q. Dear Beauty Editor:
No matter how many times I put lotion on my legs every day, they are always ashy! What gives???
A. Never fear, there are ways to manage your dry, ashy legs. The reason your legs always appear dry is because the top layer of skin is dry and dead. You’ll never get that dead skin looking lush no matter how much you moisturize that layer of skin. So your plan of attack needs to be twofold: exfoliate and ultra-moisturize.
To exfoliate, use a loofah in the shower along with an exfoliating body scrub.

Then follow up with serious moisturizer, the kind that gets way down deep. The way you know it’s going to work is that it is thick and gelatinous and gooey. That just has to get into your skin, now doesn’t it? The key with the Aquaphor is to put it on after you shower and just before bed. Slather it on all over: legs, feet, arms, everywhere. Cover up with cotton PJs to spare your sheets from getting greasy. By morning time, you have gorgeous, supple, moisturized-to-there skin. Repeat this routine a couple of times per week and your ashy issue should be a thing of the past.
