Dear Style Editor: How To Wear The Minimal Look
By TheStyleEditor | September 7, 2007
Question: Dear Style Editor,
How can a curvy girl like me rock the chic, minimalist styles coming up this fall?
Thanks,
S.D.
Answer: The sleek styles out this fall are really appealing, especially to women who work, because they are feminine but classic. So how can a woman with curves navigate the fine lines of this look?
There are a lot of cute tops, tunics, and dresses out there with pretty embellishments like pin-tucks at the collar, but unfortunately, these are just not flattering for busty women, as the pin-tucks pull over your cleavage and make it look like you’re busting on out. (Not exactly the streamlined look you are going for.)
High-waisted babydolls are also not the answer, as they end up creating more emphasis on what’s above the waistline instead of elongating your bustline and torso. This can lead even the slimmest ladies to elicit unpleasant “When’s your due date?” questions.
You need something with shape and blocks of colors that draw a pleasing silhouette while accommodating and flattering those curves. Something like this dress:
