    Bra Report

    By TheStyleEditor | January 13, 2008

I have been playing around with bra size and brands for about a year, ever since my good friend (and the publisher of Intimate Apparel Business magazine) suggested I rethink what size bra I was wearing. I had worn a 34D through high school, but that was two children ago and ten pounds ago (ten pounds less than high school, if you believe it!).

Telltale signs that my bra was too big for me included the fact that I kept the over-the-shoulder straps on the tightest possible setting as well as the fact that the strap across my back never stayed in place, but rode up significantly in the middle. She suggested I go down one band size to a 32 and up one cup size to an E.

32E?! That sounded gigantic and tiny all at the same time. But my back had been hurting, so I decided to try it out.

For some really great advice on how to properly fit a bra yourself, check out this post on Knickersblog.com.

Now nice bras are expensive. And 32E isn’t a size you would find at the typical Victoria’s Secret or mall department store. So, to test out some new bras without breaking the bank, I went to my standby: eBay!

I typed in (32E, 32 E) to get some search results, then began looking for the highest end brands: Le Mystere, Chantelle, Freya, Fantasie, Simone Perele, Audabe. I scored some really great deals and had the opportunity to try out new bras.

I also scoured the after-holiday sales at all of my favorite online purveyors. This style, the Karly by Fantasie, is my absolute new favorite. It fits perfectly and I got it at an unbelievable sale price at figleaves.com:

    Fantasie Karly plunge

I can’t stress enough the importance of having a bra that fits properly. It affects your posture, your self-esteem, and the way your clothes hang. You can really lose 10 pounds instantly by having a bra that fits and doesn’t make you lumpy and saggy looking! Assess your current bra, schedule a professional bra fitting, or take the trial-and-error approach I did; there are still plenty of high-end bras on mega-sale at the following stores:

    HerRoom

    Freshpair.com

And also, be sure to check out the Clearance Section at Maidenform.com for 30% off already discounted prices.
