Nautical designs are always in for spring, and why not? The whimsical motifs (anchors, sea shells, rope knots) are fun and fresh after a long winter of layered knits. Keith Richards is the New Face of Louis Vuitton

Following in the same arc as recent ad campaigns featuring icons such as Mikhail Gorbachev, luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton has selected another model of the non-model variety: Rolling Stone Keith Richards. The ad (below), shot by famed photog Annie Leibowitz, depicts a eye-linered Richards in a quiet moment in a hotel room (lit by skull-covered scarves draped over the lamps), guitar in hand, tea cup resting on a LV suitcase.

Avril Lavigne Coming to a Kohl’s Near You

Ersatz rocker Avril Lavigne has added a new role to her resume: fashion designer. The juniors line, titled Abbey Dawn, will feature Lavigne’s signature pretty-punk attitude (full of, we prognosticate, black and hot pink, plaids, skull motifs, and chain detailing) . The collection will launch this July at Kohl’s department stores. Prices wil range from $24-$48.

Norma Kamali For Wal-Mart

Iconic fashion designer Norma Kamali, known for her sleeping bag coat (see below) as well as high-end sweat suits and high-heeled sneakers, is teaming up with Wal-Mart to create a line of women’s fashions. The collection, which will consist of versatile and timeless pieces that will help women feel fashionable without being overly trendy, will debut in Wal-Mart stores this fall.

We recently had an interesting query from a reader who wanted to know where she could get the crazy ballet stiletto heels Gwen Stefani is sporting on her recent V magazine cover:

Now I am not exactly sure who designed the exact pair Gwen is wearing, as I don’t have the mag to check the fashion credits. However, I do know that PleaserUSA makes a crazy pair of 7″ fetish ballet heels that looks an awful like the pair Gwennie is sporting. Not sure how you would walk in these babies, but fetish couture for under $75? Pretty awesome.

Today’s Obsession: Report Signature Shoes Raffia Platforms

Today, we are all lusting after these fabulous platform heels. Now that we are all thawing out from the winter months (okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration for us, as we are based in Los Angeles, but still), we are ready to bust out with a posh pedicure and some serious spring/summer heels. And this is the pair: Report Signature Shoes Lucie Platform Raffia Sandal. The white will go with any of the brights that are hot this season, and the raffia gives a nice element of texture. And the cut is fresh, a spring version of the open-toed booties from this past fall.

Trend Alert: Hot Pink is Hot For Spring

With Hilary Duff swathed in hot pink and bright orange on the cover of this month’s Lucky magazine and Catherine Zeta-Jones pretty in pink Cavalli at the Sydney opening of her new film Death Defying Acts, I think it is safe to say that hot pink, and all of its sweet sister colors (bright orange, turquoise, and yellow) are cycling back in.

Fashion Travesty: Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony

Now I for one have never understood Chloe Sevigny’s status as a fashion icon. And this is not because I am an uptight magazine editor–I was in college and living in the East Village at the end of the Club Kid era and have worn (and worked) plenty of platform shoes and glitter face paint. But when it comes to Chloe, I just … don’t get it.

So imagine my chagrin when I heard she was coming out with a fashion line. Oh holy hell. It isn’t bad enough the general public has to be subjected to her red carpet outfits one at a time–now we will be forced to cope with the fashion atrocity in the form of an entire COLLECTION? The humanity.

And the day has arrived friends. I hope you didn’t have a big breakfast.

Now normally we try to avoid being snarky. No, really. Fashion, like every other art form, is largely subjective, and sometimes people have to just go there in order to come up with something brilliant (to wit, Marion Cotilard’s unbelievably awesome Oscar mermaid dress). But this is just too easy a target, people.

So, our take on Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony…

As with all important fashion collections, each look has a story behind it. We at The Style Editor have the inside scoop on the subtext that inspired Chloe.

Look 1: Poor Amanda. She’s been working at the firm for ages, answering phones, sending off email newsletters, and ordering supplies from Staples week in and week out. But no matter how hard she tries, no one seems to take her seriously. How can she break free?

Look 2: Victorious Megan. Ever since she was little, everyone told Megan “no.” No, she couldn’t wear a hair hat out of the house. No, she couldn’t wear bike shorts because they made her “thighs” look “big.” No, she couldn’t wear shoes when competing in the 100 meter butterfly. But look at Megan now.

Look 3: Proud Amy. For all those plain teenage girls out there who only ever wanted to be porn stars, Amy is paving the way–showing that you can be slutty even in simple flowery dress and T-shirt–if you put your mind to it.

Look 4: Totally Twins. Annabelle and Ariana may look the same. But they’re different. Very, very, very different.
